You can almost ignore the jam, just unlock it and get it spreading a little, then concentrate on clearing the blockers. The jam will spread as you clear the blockers and these are the hardest part of level 1246.
Work as close to the bottom as you can and as you clear the blockers in the middle you will uncover a colouring candy. Used on it's own the colouring candy can be useful, but it is much more useful if you can switch it with another special candy.
Use any combos you can make to work away at clearing the blockers as matches of three will not be enough to clear the thick blockers.
When you are nearly finished you can use jelly fish to cover the final few squares with jam.
