The jam begins at the bottom of the right side of the board, so needs to be spread from there.
To begin with ignore the jam and work on clearing some of the blockers to give you space to make combos.
Once you start to make combos you should get the jam spreading. Stripe/wrap combos are fairly easy to make and will clear blockers as well as spreading the jam once it gets going.
The board can be a bit confusing as it moves in a clockwise direction, up the left, across the top then down the right. So the bottom right is the bottom of the board and the place to make matches whenever possible.
Fish will help a lot towards the end when there are just a few squares left to be filled. Remember the bottom right squares have jam under them so don't need to be cleared.
